Located in the heart of the Historic South End neighborhood, the Ruth Barkley Apartments offer an array of modern apartments in a variety of configurations for low- and moderate-income individuals and families. The complex is named after Ruth Barkley, a long-time tenant leader. Erected in 1950, now that renovations are complete, the Ruth Barkley Apartments offer 413 one to four bedroom apartments in a variety of walk-up style and elevator buildings as well as some townhouse units.  Rents are calculated at 30% of a resident’s income. Residents have the option of choosing a flat rent as well.

Location:

Ruth Barkley Apartments are just two miles from downtown Boston. A number of stores and businesses are located within walking distance, including up and coming resturants and fine establishments. The Blackstone Elementary and Cathedral High School are located across the street. The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club is steps away and includes many community services, recently renovated community chapel. The Boston Police Area D station is located directly across the street as is a Boston Fire Department Station. City Parks are located on Washington Street. Boston Medical Center, the Dialysis Center and the South End Community Health Center are located within steps from the development. 

Transportation:

Public transportation is a short walk away, with a bus stop on Washington Street. The Washington Street #49 MBTA bus provides transportation to downtown Boston. The silver line is steps away as well which makes frequent trips to Downtown Boston.
