Old Colony, one of BHA's oldest housing developments, offers a variety of living arrangements for low- and moderate-income individuals and families. Old Colony offers 472 units ranging from one to six-bedroom apartments. Built in 1941, Old Colony is one of the BHA’s largest developments and sits on 15 acres of land near the South Boston waterfront. A portion of Old Colony is being redeveloped and has been renamed as Old Colony Homes. Rents are calculated at 30% of a resident’s income. Residents have the option of choosing a flat rent as well.
Location:
Old Colony is located in South Boston by the sea. There are a variety of shops and services close by and it is a short walk to Castle Island, Carson Beach and Columbia Park, popular walking, fishing, and picnicking areas. The L Street (Michael Curley) Gym and Bath House are also within walking distance. South Bay Shopping Mall, home to Super Stop & Shop, Old Navy and Home Depot, is easily accessible by a free shuttle from Andrew Station. A local Boys and Girls Club and South Boston Neighborhood House help provide parental support and activity groups for children and teens. There are several churches in the area as well. The Perkins Elementary School is next to the development.
Health care is available at the South Boston Health Center and the Boston University Medical Center and Boston Medical Center are a short bus/car ride away.
Transportation:
Public transportation is available at nearby Andrew Station on the MBTA’s Red Line. Andrew connects to downtown Boston and Harvard Square. There are a number of bus routes that are accessible from Andrew Station as well.

- Full-time maintenance and management staff located on site
- South Boston Collaborative located on-site, which offers a number of social services for families and children
