Boston Housing Authority children and their families met Santa Claus and some of his very special helpers, during the agency’s annual Children’s Holiday Party for BHA residents and their children. The festivities took place on December 10 at the Boston Teacher’s Union Hall in Dorchester from 12-4 p.m.
Taking time from their busy North Pole schedule, Santa and his elves distributed gifts and took photographs hundreds of youngsters in attendance. The party included an array of entertainers including magicians, jugglers, and a disc jockey playing holiday favorites. Youngsters had their faces painted, and enjoyed pizza and ice cream as well.
The Children’s Holiday Party serves as a way to bring children, between the ages of three and ten, from developments throughout the city together to celebrate the holiday season in a safe, fun way. The event is organized by the BHA’s Public Safety Department who accepted gift donations from the “Toys for Tots” program and local vendors. In addition, BHA employees offered cash donations and gift wrapping efforts to provide gifts and smiles to the youth of Boston. Many BHA employees and residents also play the part of Santa, his elves and other characters at the event, which draws close to 1, 000 children.
Mayor Thomas M. Menino and BHA Administrator Sandra Henriquez attended.
