In an effort to promote health education and intervention in a culturally diverse atmosphere, the Boston Housing Authority sponsored the 8th annual Healing the Family Conference at Roxbury Community College on December 16, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The Conference, themed “We All Make a Difference,” included a number of educational and interactive workshops for people aged 15 and up. Workshop topics include HIV/AIDS, Diversity, Breaking the Generational Curse, and Preventing Teen Relationship Violence.
In addition, representatives from the Breast Friends Program, Mattapan Community Health Center, Teen Voices, The Samaritans, Boston Healthy Start Program, the Mayor’s Drug Awareness Program, and City Year were stationed at resource and information tables during the conference.
The keynote speaker at the event was State Senator Dianne Wilkerson. Other speakers included BHA Administrator Sandra Henriquez, and Gilbert White of the Department of Public Health. The 12th Baptist Youth Choir and Edward Williams, Executive Director of Creating It Through Productions Inc., provided entertainment.
