General Description: Under the supervision of the Network Services Manager, the PC and Printer Support Specialist will assist in maintaining the Boston Housing Authority's ("BHA") personal computers, terminal devices, printers, and other network resources and peripherals. The PC and Printer Support Specialist maintain BHA PC specifications, will configure and install new PCs and terminal devices, will assist in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and support of the BHA's PCs, terminal devices, printers, and other computer peripherals, and will ensure that users' problems with this equipment are resolved in a timely and effective manner. The PC and Printer Support Specialist will serve as a quick-response extension of the MIS Department's Help Desk. The PC and Printer Support Specialist will often have to travel to locations throughout the City of Boston.

Duties & Responsibilities: The PC and Printer Support Specialist must be able to support all aspects of the BHA’s installed PCs, terminal devices and printers, including: • Installing of client software; • Setting up terminal devices; • Setting up and configuring network printers; • Performing routine network maintenance and management, including diagnosis and replacement of such components as video cards, hard drives, modems and motherboards. • Troubleshooting both local- and wide-area network connections; • Purging and restoring files; • Maintain and deploy PC hard drive images using software such as Symantec GHOST; • Answer Help Desk telephones and provide users with Tier 1 technical support; • Create concise and efficient Help Desk trouble tickets based on user input, including steps taken by the Support Specialist to try and resolve reported problem. In addition, the PC and Printer Support Specialist may be responsible for a variety of associated equipment including scanners, PDAs, digital cameras and the like.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience: Candidate must have an Associates’ degree in computer technology, computer science, or management information systems (or equivalent work experience), and familiarity with Windows operating systems (2000, 98, XP, Vista), and TCP/IP. Experience with UNIX and product certification (such as Microsoft, Cisco, A+, Network+) a plus. Candidate must possess strong communications and service skills, and must be willing to patiently and politely guide users through steps to resolve problems.
