General Description: Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of MIS, the Applications Support Specialist will support the utilization of the Boston Housing Authority’s (BHA) various software application products, including major application suites, departmental applications, and desktop applications. The Applications Support Specialist will support various scheduled and ad hoc data processing functions, and will work with MIS Departmental staff and BHA departments to specify, write, and test reports and reporting processes using various report-writing tools. The Applications Support Specialist will often serve as the initial point of contact for the MIS Department’s Help Desk. The Application Support Specialist will perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of MIS.
Duties & Responsibilities: - Processes, monitors and analyzes periodic billings and regulatory reporting, ensuring accuracy and timeliness, and produces management reports on these functions;
- Drafts reporting specifications for users’ approval;
- Develops and implements reporting solutions based on approved specifications;
- Creates batch reporting processes, end-user reports, ad hoc reporting tools, and other reporting solutions as determined by users’ reporting needs;
- Provides first-level user support, including taking user support calls;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience: Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; two year’s relevant work experience may be substituted for a year of undergraduate education. Experience with Microsoft Office applications is required. Experience with relational database architecture is required. Experience with large-scale data processing is preferred. Knowledge of Crystal Reports, Windows and UNIX operating systems, SQL databases, Client-server architecture, ODBC, and telephone applications is desired. Candidate must have at least two years experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access. Candidate should have experience writing reports for major software systems, preferably for a large business or public organization. At least two years experience using Crystal Reports to write reports is desired. Experience with software systems is desired. SQL experience is desired. Candidates must have experience working collaboratively as well as experience working independently on detailed-oriented data processing, and of relating to a wide variety of system users with various levels of familiarity with systems and technology. Candidates must possess extremely strong communication skills and user support abilities. Candidate must be able to work as a part of a team of MIS professionals.
