Who Can Apply for Rental Assistance (Section 8)? |

Priority One Categories:
- The BHA rental assistance waiting list is limited to applicants who are
in certain emergency situations. Only those who qualify for these Priority
One categories can apply. These include: disaster, condemned housing, court-ordered/no-fault
eviction, domestic violence, homelessness, danger of reprisal, victim of hate
crime, inaccessibility of dwelling unit, loss of shelter eligibility, loss
of rent control, cessation of assistance, and relocation from supportive housing.

Income Limits:
US Citizenship:
- HUD has established rules for federally-funded public housing that restrict
the amount of housing aid available to families with members who are not US
citizens or legally authorized residents.

Other Requirements:
The BHA will deny an applicant a rental assistance voucher if:
- Any household member has been evicted from a federally funded housing development
within the last three years.
- Any household member has had federal rental assistance terminated by a public
housing agency within the last three years.
