Orchard Gardens is a diverse, welcoming community that offers a variety of living arrangements. With the addition of Orchard Commons (The off-site portion of the development), Orchard Gardens accounts for one of four Hope VI developments at the Boston Housing Authority. Orchard Gardens is a privately managed development with 331 one, two, three, four and five-bedroom units in garden style housing and a renovated historic building. The development has affordable and market rate units and maintains its own wait list. Orchard Commons, located at 2315 Washington Street in Roxbury, is also a privately managed development with 76 one, two, three, and four-bedroom units in row house and semi-detached buildings. Orchard Commons and Orchard Gardens apartments are located in the Dudley Square area of Roxbury. Within walking distance you will find: a retail and commercial area that includes a supermarket, a library, many houses of worship, the post office, and the Orchard Gardens Community Center. The center has after-school and teen groups, a computer room, and a gymnasium. Health care is available nearby at the Whittier Street Health Center.
