J.J. Meade

Welcome to J.J. Meade
5 Melville Avenue, Dorchester
Welcome to J.J. Meade Apartments. We are pleased that you are considering our community for your future home.

J.J. Meade is a small, welcoming community that offers a variety of living arrangements for low- and moderate-income elderly and disabled persons. J.J. Meade offers approximately 39 one-bedroom apartments in a garden-style setting. Our two-story complex is named in memory of a former Boston Housing Authority manager who had strong ties to the community. We think that you will enjoy this quiet, pleasant community.

We offer many amenities for elderly and disabled individuals, which include intercoms in every apartment. We have units that are handicap accessible and we may modify existing apartments based on Reasonable Accommodation requests.

Residents pay 30 percent of their income towards rent, prorated rent, or a predetermined flat rent.

J.J. Meade employs a professional management team that promptly responds to all resident needs in a timely manner. The staff includes:
  • Manager
  • Management Aide
  • Resident Service Coordinator
  • Resident custodian

The BHA’s Elderly and Disabled Resident Service Coordinators have been trained to:
  • perform need assessments and make appropriate referrals for services
  • access services to enhance tenancy and independent life
  • coordinate services for home bound frail elderly/disabled
  • help residents to access services that enhance quality of life
  • assist in crisis intervention with tenants at risk
  • advocate and liaison with management, family, health providers and community agencies.
