Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Towers is a warm, welcoming community that offers apartments in a high-rise setting in a convenient Roxbury location for low- and moderate-income elderly and disabled persons. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Towers offers 102 studio and one-bedroom apartments in a high-rise, 14-story building. Our complex is named after noted African-Welcome to Martin Luther King Towers Apartments. We are pleased that you are considering our community for your future home.

Martin Luther King Towers is a warm, welcoming community that offers a variety of living arrangements for low- and moderate-income elderly and disabled persons. Martin Luther King Towers offers approximately 102 studio and one-bedroom apartments in a high-rise, fourteen-story building. Built in the 1960s, Martin Luther King Towers commands sweeping views of Boston Harbor, downtown Boston and scenic Blue Hills.

We offer many amenities for elderly and disabled individuals, which include emergency pull cords in the bedrooms and bathrooms as well as intercoms in every apartment. We have units that are handicap accessible and we may modify existing apartments based on Reasonable Accommodation requests.

Residents pay 30 percent of their income towards rent, prorated rent, or a predetermined flat rent.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Towers employs a professional management team that promptly responds to all resident needs in a timely manner. The staff includes:
  • Manager
  • Management Aide
  • Resident Service Coordinator
  • Two resident custodians


The BHA’s Elderly and Disabled Resident Service Coordinators have been trained to:
  • perform need assessments and make appropriate referrals for services
  • access services to enhance tenancy and independent life
  • coordinate services for home bound frail elderly/disabled
  • help residents to access services that enhance quality of life
  • assist in crisis intervention with tenants at risk
  • advocate and liaison with management, family, health providers and community agencies.

Location
Martin Luther King Towers is located in Roxbury in a vibrant neighborhood with many shops, restaurants and services. The Tower is right next door to Washington Park Mall, which includes a supermarket, dry cleaners and numerous local merchant shops. Walgreen’s is a five-minute walk away. Also nearby are Malcolm X Park, the Shelburne Community Center, an MDC pool and basketball courts.

Public transportation via bus service is a two-minute walk from the complex. MBTA buses provide transportation to the Ruggles Street Station on the Orange Line and Ashmont Station on the Red Line.

THE RIDE, a door-to-door transportation service provided by the MBTA, is available by appointment for persons with disabilities.

Also, a city-operated Senior Shuttle is available by appointment for residents to go to doctor’s appointments and grocery shopping.

We offer a wide range of amenities, programs, and services to help you feel at home. These include:
  • Air-conditioned community room with a Red Sox donated High-Definition, flat-screen TV and VCR
  • Regular activities such as “Hooks and Needles” arts and crafts program, film showings, coffee hours, cookouts, day trips and birthday parties
  • First-floor laundry room
  • Parking available in the rear of the buildings
  • 24-hour security coverage
  • Computer lab
  • Resident parking
  • Health screenings
  • On-site voting
