Welcome to Joseph Malone Apartments. We are pleased that you are considering our community for your future home.
Joseph Malone is a warm, welcoming community that offers a variety of living arrangements for low- and moderate-income elderly and disabled persons. Joseph Malone offers approximately 104 one-bedroom apartments in a garden-style environment.
We offer many amenities for elderly and disabled individuals, which include emergency pull cords in the bedrooms and bathrooms as well as intercoms in every apartment. We have units that are handicap accessible and we may modify existing apartments based on Reasonable Accommodation requests.
Residents pay 30 percent of their income towards rent, prorated rent, or a predetermined flat rent.
Joseph Malone employs a professional management team that promptly responds to all resident needs in a timely manner. The staff includes:
- Manager
- Management Aide
- Resident Service Coordinator
- Resident Custodian
The BHA’s Elderly and Disabled Resident Service Coordinators have been trained to:
- perform need assessments and
make appropriate referrals for
services
- access services to enhance tenancy and independent life
- coordinate services for home
bound frail elderly/disabled
- help residents to access services
that enhance quality of life
- assist in crisis intervention with tenants at risk
- advocate and liaison with
management, family, health providers and community agencies.

Location |
Joseph Malone is located in Hyde Park, in a pleasant residential area comprised mostly of single-family homes. The complex is only a five-minute walk to a bustling shopping area with many stores and services. Star Market is less than one-half mile away. There are churches of many different denominations near Cleary Square.
Health care is available at Faulkner and Carney hospitals; both are within a few miles of Malone.
Public transportation via buses is available in front of the community room on Gordon Street and on Summer Street to the Forest Hills MBTA Station. The Commuter Rail Station, which provides transportation to downtown Boston, is available across the street from the complex.
THE RIDE, a door-to-door transportation service provided by the MBTA, is available by appointment for persons with disabilities.
Also, a city-operated Senior Shuttle is available by appointment for residents to go to doctor’s appointments and grocery shopping.

We offer a wide range of amenities, programs, and services to help you feel at home. These include:
- Walking paths, large open grassy area, trees, flowers and outside patio with tables and benches for residents to enjoy
- Spacious community room
- Laundry facilities at the front and rear of the complex
- Small sitting room/library with restrooms
- Resident flower and vegetable gardening
- On-site hot lunch program Monday through Friday
- Regular activities such as bingo, line dancing classes, walking groups, sing-a-longs, field trips, birthday parties and coffee hours
- Separate supportive housing initiative called “Summer House” that provides long-term care for frail elders with a full-time service counselor
